Barron County Democratic Party Minutes

The Barron County Democratic Party meeting was called to order by Chairperson Linda Thompson at 10 A.M., Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Norske Nook in Rice Lake. Twenty two members and friends were present.

 

Following introductions, minutes of the December 15, 2011 meeting were circulated.  Dee Taylor moved and John Hardin seconded a motion to approve the minutes as printed.  The motion passed with all in favor.

Treasurer Clarice Fall reported a current balance of $1669.11 in the checking account.  Cecil Kippenhan moved to accept the report.  Elsie Krause seconded the motion which passed.

Edith Olson gave a Sunshine Report on cards sent and to be sent.  The food pantry donations will go to Prairie Farm this month.

At this time, Pat Kreitlow, Democratic candidate for the 7th Congressional District spoke.  The 7th CD includes 5 media markets.  It will take much help from local supporters and individual financial contributions to counter act the PAC support that Duffy enjoys.

Chairperson Thompson reported that over 5100 signatures were collected by the Recall Walker group in Barron County.  She, also, reported on the importance of getting voter ID information out prior to spring elections.  Information has been put out via radio.  Some towns have sent information to tax payers.  Information is available on the GAB website.

Karn Moe will be co-treasurer with Clarice Fall.  Dee Taylor will be membership chairman.

Register of Deeds Joyce Kaseno reported on activity in the office.  A number of foreclosures were coming through for what had been 2 income families.  Due to changes in circumstances, many can no longer keep up with mortgage payments.

Russell Rindsig, candidate for the District17 Supervisor position on the Barron County Board, reported that there would be a primary election in his district on February 21st.

State Assembly candidates, John Hardin and Steve Smith, addressed the group.  Hardin said that health care was a primary issue for him.  Smith said that Mary Hubler will be his treasurer and he plans to announce his candidacy to the press next week.

Chairperson Thompson listed various communications of interest:

1.     The 7th CD meeting will be held in Marathon County (Wausau) on April 21st.

2.     The State Convention will be June 8 & 9 in Appleton.

3.     County Chairperson/Officer Training will be February 25 & 26 in StevenŐs point.  Linda will attend. Elsie Krause moved to reimburse up to 3 officers for attending the meeting.  Cecil Kippenhan seconded the motion which was approved.

4.     The Tammy Baldwin event will be held in Hayward on February 11th.

Topics suggested for discussion at future meetings include a mineral depletion tax, Voter ID and health care.

The next meeting will be February 16, 2012 at 10 A.M. at Norske Nook.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:30 A.M.
